Gimhae Urban Development Corporation Athletics Team Founded: "Will Become the Center of Korean Athletics"

The Track and Field Team of Gimhae City Urban Development Corporation in Gyeongnam was established on the 14th.


The inauguration ceremony of the Track and Field Team was attended by Mayor Hong Taeyong, Choi Kiyoung, President of the Urban Development Corporation, Ryu Myeongyeol, Chairman of the City Council, along with city and provincial council members, representatives from the Gyeongnam Sports Council, Gimhae Sports Council, and the Athletics Federation, totaling about 60 people.


According to the city, the Track and Field Team will be operated on consignment by the Gimhae City Urban Development Corporation.


The team consists of athletes Lee Hyunjung (25, former Hwaseong City Hall), Hwang Jihyang (24, former Paju City Hall), Seo Ali (20, graduate of Gaya High School), who were recruited in January last year, and head coach Kim Minsu (43, former athletics coach at Gimhae Naedong Middle School), who was appointed through an open recruitment in February.

Mayor Hong said, "With the establishment of the Track and Field Team today, we have established a professional athlete development system for outstanding local talents," adding, "We will actively support our Track and Field Team so that they can fully demonstrate their skills in various domestic and international competitions."


President Choi said, "I hope you carry the pride and responsibility of representing the 550,000 citizens of Gimhae and do your best at every moment," and added, "Please watch with interest as our Track and Field Team grows to become the future center of Korean athletics."


Gimhae City currently operates eight workplace sports teams, including football, hockey, weightlifting, taekwondo, bowling, kendo, and boxing, in addition to athletics.


These teams will serve as the core to fulfill the role of the main host city for the 105th National Sports Festival in 2024.
