Gokseong-gun Launches 'Senior Happiness and Safety Meal Delivery' Program

Supporting Side Dishes for the Elderly, Also Checking on Their Well-being

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it held the launch ceremony for the ‘Senior Citizens' Happy and Safe Meal Delivery’ on the 10th.

The launch ceremony for the ‘Senior Citizens' Happy and Safe Meal Delivery’ was held together with the Gokseong, Okgwa, Seokgok, Gokseong Simcheong, and Okgwa Mokhwa Rotary Clubs in the region, the Gokseong-gun Volunteer Center, and the Gokseong-gun Community Security Council.

The Senior Citizens' Happy Meal, which started in 2009, is a project that supports side dishes once a month to elderly people living alone and low-income senior citizens while checking on their well-being.

Until now, about 50 members of the Gokseong-gun Women's Association have prepared side dishes on the second Friday of every month, and officials from the Resident Welfare Division of the county office and township offices have visited vulnerable households to deliver the side dishes.

However, through this launch ceremony, the five Rotary Clubs of Gokseong-gun in Rotary International District 3610 will begin delivering side dishes. The initiative aims to establish a ‘delivery road’ network to check on the well-being of elderly people living alone and prevent solitary deaths.

Recipients of the side dish delivery from the Rotary Club said, “It is not easy to prepare meals by myself, but thanks to receiving these side dishes, I was able to eat deliciously. I feel reassured by the warm care of the volunteers and always want to express my gratitude.”
