Goheung-gun, Continuous Contributions to Education Development Fund Maintained

Active Community Participation for Educational Development in Goheung

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that the Goheung-gun Education Development Fund continues to be steadily donated in 2023 with the spirit of "Nurturing local talents with my own hands."

Established in 2008, the Goheung-gun Education Development Fund is formed through contributions from membership fees, hometown residents, local citizens, businesses, institutions, and social organizations. It is used to promote educational environment improvement projects within the region, fostering a scholarly atmosphere and discovering and nurturing outstanding talents who can contribute to the nation and society.

This year as well, community participation to support Goheung’s educational development is active. Starting with the Korea Asbestos Safety Association in January, numerous individuals, organizations, and groups such as Dohwa Baseball Park Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, Geumsan-myeon Youth Association, Nokdong Credit Union, Heungyang Agricultural Cooperative, and Pungyang Agricultural Cooperative have consecutively made donations, bringing the cumulative donation amount to 40 million KRW as of March.

Donors expressed, “We donated the fund with the hope of contributing even a little to nurturing excellent local talents,” and also hoped that the culture of giving would further spread so that students striving to achieve their dreams despite difficult circumstances can receive support.

Meanwhile, as of the end of 2022, the total amount of the Goheung-gun Education Development Fund reached 25.7 billion KRW, of which 11 billion KRW was invested in improving the educational environment. In 2023, the fund plans to support 2.4 billion KRW for scholarships such as entrance scholarships for local high schools with excellent academic records, career and college admission support, and academic improvement programs including English, Korean history, and mathematics competitions, as well as middle and high school academies.
