Hyundai Motor Company to Provide Integrated Transportation Services with Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation

Hyundai Motor Company is collaborating with Gyeonggi Province to improve the public transportation environment for local residents.

Hyundai Motor and Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation announced on the 14th that they will launch an integrated transportation service based on Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) throughout Daebudo Island in Ansan City, which can be linked with various transportation modes.

Hyundai Motor supports Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation by transforming the AI-integrated demand responsive transit service ‘Shucle’ into a MaaS (Mobility-as-a-Service) platform and enhancing the service level.

The integrated transportation service starting this time is the first project to provide integrated services based on demand responsive transit, which was previously only possible in rural and fishing villages, throughout Gyeonggi Province. It is scheduled to be introduced in six additional areas within the first half of this year.

The Gyeonggi Province integrated transportation service provided through the ‘Ddokta’ application is operated by Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation. Ddokta is a Gyeonggi Province customized mobility platform developed by Hyundai Motor based on the Shucle platform.

Service users enter their departure and arrival locations and receive vehicle dispatch based on routes reflecting real-time demand and traffic conditions. They can conveniently travel to their desired destinations. If dispatch is difficult, nearby shared kickboards are recommended to assist users’ mobility.

Additionally, users can receive transfer discounts when transferring to public transportation such as buses, making it more convenient for residents in areas with previously low public transportation accessibility to use transportation services.

The Hyundai Motor Shucle platform, which underpins Ddokta, is characterized by its development to allow regional customized service configurations tailored to the purpose and target of each area with only slight customization, considering the differing transportation environments by region.

To this end, Hyundai Motor has established an integrated support system encompassing traffic situation analysis before platform introduction as well as service operation support, and is strengthening partnerships with various mobility companies to enable linkage with necessary transportation modes.

Kim Soo-young, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor MCS LAB, said, "Shucle, which introduced Korea’s first AI solution-based demand responsive transit, has now launched the Gyeonggi Province Ddokta app based on two years of operational experience. We will cooperate with more local governments to create a public transportation service platform tailored to regional characteristics, making daily mobility more convenient for citizens."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor passed the regulatory sandbox for the Gyeonggi Province integrated demand responsive mobility service demonstration project last August through collaboration with Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation. In addition, reflecting regional transportation characteristics, Hyundai plans to expand connections with various transportation modes such as shared bicycles and taxis, and provide a call function using phones to ensure smooth service use for digitally disadvantaged users.
