Planned Support for Scientific and Technical Analysis
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] On the 14th, the National Police Agency announced that it has appointed 111 members to the '6th Scientific Investigation Advisory Committee' to support police scientific investigations.
Now in its 6th term, the Scientific Investigation Advisory Committee is composed of experts in law and systems (16 members), forensic medicine (21 members), forensic science (34 members), forensic engineering (25 members), and forensic psychology (15 members). They will provide policy advice on systems and techniques related to scientific investigations and support scientific and technical analysis in the event of incidents.
Previously, the Scientific Investigation Advisory Committee engaged in various activities such as joint on-site investigations and legal psychological consultations related to incidents like apartment collapse accidents and the murder case at a children's sports center.
For this 6th term, new experts in brain engineering and veterinary forensic medicine have been appointed, expanding the advisory scope to include brainwave analysis and animal autopsies.
The National Police Agency emphasized, "The field of scientific investigation, which supports criminal investigations based on scientific evidence and objective data, requires expert participation and cooperation not only in the process from inspection to appraisal but also in the research and development of advanced scientific investigation techniques."
