Record-Breaking Multi-Nation Wide-Angle Projection Delivers Hope Message to Citizens

Prioritizing Citizen Safety, Dedicated to Establishing Independent Safety and Disaster Control Tower

The Pohang Cultural Foundation will hold the Pohang International Fireworks Festival, one of Pohang City's representative festivals, from May 26 to 28.

This year, the Pohang International Fireworks Festival, preparing for its first full-scale event in four years, will take place around the Hyeongsan River Riverside Sports Park. Featuring the highest number of participating countries in its history, differentiated programs from other festivals, and innovative venue designs, the festival will offer a variety of interactive content and attractions to deliver a message of hope to the citizens of Pohang.

One of the main programs of the festival, the ‘International Fireworks Show,’ will be conducted with four countries united. Korea will present the widest-ever fireworks display stretching 1 km, while top-tier fireworks teams from around the world?including the Philippines, winner of the Montreal International Fireworks Competition; Italy, with over 100 years of tradition; and Sweden, one of Europe’s leading fireworks companies?will illuminate Pohang’s night sky in May.

Side events include a Fringe Festival, Firelight Romantic Concert, and citizen-participatory busking performances. In particular, the ‘Citizen Design Fireworks Show,’ where citizens’ fireworks designs selected through an online contest are realized on-site, is raising great anticipation.

Additionally, the festival will offer various delights through citizen-led light experiences and market zones, programs planned by the Citizen Festival Planning Group, and local food markets such as Pohang Restaurant and Pohang Market.

A representative of the Pohang Cultural Foundation stated, “Since the Pohang International Fireworks Festival has not been held normally for a long time, citizens’ expectations are very high due to their thirst and long wait for the festival. We will prepare a festival that meets these expectations. Above all, citizens’ safety is the most important issue, so we will thoroughly establish a pre-event safety management plan and ensure flawless event operation.”

In celebration of the ‘2023-2024 Visit Korea Year,’ jointly promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, the Pohang International Fireworks Festival has been selected as one of the top 100 K-Culture tourism events, and efforts will be made to attract tourists visiting Korea.
