Jaene Volunteer Group - CPR and Defibrillator Usage Training
Education Provided at Senior Welfare Centers, Nursing Homes, and Youth Cultural Centers
The POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks First Aid Education Volunteer Group (Leader Bang Samsu) announced that on the 11th, they conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid training for Gwangyang Steelworks employees and their families at the POSCO Eoullim Gymnasium.
When sudden cardiac arrest occurs, if appropriate measures are not taken within 4 minutes, brain damage can occur, so rapid response is crucial for survival. When CPR is performed by an initial witness during an emergency, the survival rate increases more than threefold, which is why the 4 minutes after cardiac arrest is called the "golden time."

The First Aid Education Volunteer Group was established in June 2019 and has been providing CPR education volunteer services for five years to help Gwangyang Steelworks employees and local neighbors protect their loved ones and those around them without missing the "golden time."
They visit wherever education is needed, such as senior welfare centers, nursing homes, youth cultural centers, and businesses, conducting safety and first aid lectures including CPR, leading efforts to enhance the safety capabilities of the community.
In particular, to provide higher-level first aid education, they have completed advanced CPR courses and obtained certifications such as CPR instructor and emergency medical technician licenses to enhance their expertise, with 85% of the certified volunteers in the group.
This volunteer activity conducted for Gwangyang Steelworks employees and their families included basic theoretical education on CPR along with practical training such as △ cardiac arrest patient assessment △ emergency reporting procedures △ automated external defibrillator (AED) management and usage △ and CPR practice.
Participants enthusiastically strengthened their emergency response skills by practicing 119 emergency call simulations, chest compressions, artificial respiration, and AED usage using Annie (a CPR training mannequin).
Bang Samsu, leader of the POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks First Aid Education Volunteer Group, stated, “CPR is a very important first aid method that can save the lives of loved ones and colleagues,” adding, “Since we are conducting life-saving education, we will continue to work with a sense of responsibility to improve our expertise together with the volunteers.”
