Sweeping the Best Cinematography, Art, and Music Awards

There was no upset. The Netflix film All Quiet on the Western Front won the International Feature Film award at the Academy Awards in the United States.

At the 95th Academy Awards held on the 13th morning (Korean time, 12th afternoon local time) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles (LA), USA, All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany) won the International Feature Film award, beating Argentina, 1985 (Argentina), Close (Belgium), EO (Poland), and The Quiet Girl (Ireland).

Directed by Edward Berger, All Quiet on the Western Front is the third film adaptation following the 1930 and 1979 versions, based on the original novel by Erich Maria Remarque. It depicts the story of young German soldiers during World War I. The film was produced by the online streaming service (OTT) Netflix.

On stage, the director said, "I went to brunch and met the cinematographer of another film nominated this year, TAR. We ended up making the same film after 30 years," adding, "It feels great to have our hard work recognized." He continued, "I am grateful to the actors, the production team, my children, and my wife."

The film, which carries an anti-war message, was nominated in nine categories at this year’s Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and has drawn attention by winning awards for Cinematography, International Feature Film, Production Design, and Music.

In South Korea, Decision to Leave (directed by Park Chan-wook), which won the Best Director award at the 75th Cannes Film Festival last year, was submitted for the International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards but did not make the final five nominees.
