Seongdong-gu Advances Smart Tourism Cultural City through Five-Year Tourism Promotion Plan
Plans Include Installation of Tourist Information Center, Development of Night Tourism Courses such as Eungbongsan, and Seongsu Festa in June
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has announced the ‘Seongdong-gu Tourism Promotion Five-Year Plan’ to realize a sustainable smart cultural city and is moving forward with its implementation.
This plan was established to set a vision for building Seongdong-gu’s unique tourism brand and to develop balanced tourism strategies by district. Under the vision “Meet in Seongdong!”, it includes seven major strategies and 68 detailed projects: ▲ Seongdong as a representative tourist attraction in the metropolitan area ▲ Convenient and enjoyable Seongdong through smart technology ▲ Seongdong with diverse and distinctive flavors ▲ Seongdong for healing by the waterfront and green spaces.
First, to prepare for an increase in tourists in the post-COVID-19 era, the plan includes establishing and operating the ‘Seongdong Tourist Information Center’ (tentative name) at Seongsu Station. The Seongdong Tourist Information Center will provide a one-stop service where visitors can easily obtain desired travel information.
Seongdong-gu expects the center to play a significant role in revitalizing tourism for both domestic and international visitors by linking local representative festivals and various experiential programs.
Additionally, tourist interpreters will act as travel curators, offering recommended Seongdong tourism courses and customized tourism guidance services to enhance convenience.
The district also plans to accelerate the development of night tourism courses. Analysis of tourism trends after COVID-19 shows that night tourism tends to have longer stay times and can lead to overnight stays, which helps stimulate the local economy. Efforts will focus on developing courses for enjoying night tourism centered around Eungbongsan, a popular Seoul night view hotspot featured in various media.
Moreover, romantic walking trails for couples will be created along the extensive waterfront, and stay-type tourism products will be developed utilizing Seongsu-dong cafes and the red brick alleyways. In June, the district is preparing the Seongsu Festa (tentative name), a festival-style market featuring hip-hop festivals and active participation from social ventures and local artists throughout Seongsu-dong.
Seongsu-dong Atelier Street is always bustling with crowds not only on weekends but also on weekdays.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “We have established this five-year plan to build a city brand that tourists can feel and recognize.” He added, “Following last year’s selection as a preliminary cultural city, we will continue to implement various tourism policies that leverage local characteristics in the post-COVID-19 era to become an attractive city that realizes the value of coexistence.”
