[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 12th that it has formed a ‘Damage Support Council’ to assist customers affected by personal information leaks and internet connection errors. The first meeting was held on the 9th. This is part of LG Uplus’s comprehensive damage support plan announced last month.
The newly launched Damage Support Council consists of six external experts representing customers, including organizations such as the Small Business Federation and the Korea PC Internet Cafe Cooperative, as well as members from academia, the legal sector, the media, civic groups, and LG Uplus executives.
The council plans to thoroughly analyze cases of damage caused by personal information leaks and internet connection errors, and based on expertise and objectivity, conduct sufficient discussions to establish reasonable support standards and policies tailored to each customer type.
At the meeting, LG Uplus introduced the status of customer damage reports received by the ‘Damage Support Center,’ which has been operating since February 16, and held discussions on the principles and criteria for compensation. As of the 7th, the LG Uplus ‘Damage Support Center’ had received 2,284 cases of internet connection error damages.
Han Seok-hyun, Director of the Seoul YMCA Citizen Mediation Office, said, “Until now, it has not been easy for service users to receive damage compensation through such forums,” and added, “I hope LG Uplus will focus on restoring customer trust and increasing future value by considering damage support measures from various perspectives.”
LG Uplus plans to operate the council without setting a specific end date, continuing until a balanced comprehensive support plan is established according to each customer type.
