Coupang is withdrawing from Japan less than two years after entering the market.
According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) on the 12th, Coupang Japan will end its food and daily necessities delivery service in certain areas such as Meguro and Setagaya wards in Tokyo on the 21st.
After entering the Japanese market in June 2021, Coupang introduced "quick commerce," delivering items in as little as 10 minutes. It partnered with department store Takashimaya and variety store Daiso, handling about 5,000 products.
A Coupang Japan representative told Nikkei, "Based on the results of the trial operation of the service, we decided to withdraw."
