Hyundai Motor-UNDP 'For Tomorrow' Selected as Finalist for SXSW Awards

Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 12th that its project, conducted in collaboration with UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), has been selected as a finalist in the Media category of the 'SXSW 2023 Innovation Awards.'

'SXSW,' the world's largest comprehensive arts festival combining film, music, and IT, began in 1787 as a small local music festival and has gradually expanded in scale. It has evolved into an event showcasing creative and new ideas, including music as well as startup-driven new technologies and products. SXSW is held annually in Austin, Texas, USA, every March, and this year it is taking place from the 10th to the 19th of this month (local time).

During the event period each year, SXSW holds the 'SXSW Innovation Awards,' selecting projects that have developed the most interesting technologies in 14 categories including media, sustainability, design, and AI.

The 'For Tomorrow' project, selected as a finalist this time, is a project Hyundai Motor Company and UNDP have been conducting since signing a business agreement in September 2020.

'For Tomorrow' is a grassroots innovation platform where members from various sectors around the world collectively gather intelligence to create detailed solutions to address the problems faced by today's global society, such as transportation, housing, and the environment, to build a better tomorrow. Currently, a total of 84 diverse solutions have been proposed from 52 countries.

To celebrate being selected as a finalist, Hyundai Motor Company exhibited project-related videos, photos, and other outcomes on the 11th (local time) at the JW Marriott Austin in Texas. The final winners of this award will be announced on the 13th (local time) at the Austin Convention Center through judging by a panel of experts and audience voting.

Past winners of the SXSW Innovation Awards include Dropbox, TikTok, and Airbnb, and receiving the award is recognized with high credibility and as a leader in the field of innovation. A Hyundai Motor Company official said, "We are pleased that the innovation and sincerity of the Hyundai-UNDP joint project have been recognized worldwide," adding, "Hyundai and UNDP will continue to collaborate this year to ensure that grassroots solutions worldwide can be innovatively connected."
