20 Sites Including Mipo Industrial Complex Designated as Odor Control Areas

Track Down the Main Culprit of Air Pollution, Odors!

The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute has launched an odor reduction project to create a pleasant living environment. On the 12th, the institute announced that it will conduct the "2023 First Half Odor Survey" over three months until May.

The survey targets 20 points across four designated odor management areas: Ulsan Mipo National Industrial Complex, Onsan National Industrial Complex, Samdong-myeon Hajam-ri in Ulju-gun, and Joil-ri. In addition to the management areas, boundary and nearby impact area points are also included.

The survey items include 23 substances designated by the Ministry of Environment, such as complex odors and specified odor substances.

An institute official stated, "Odors are a representative air pollutant that citizens are sensitive to. The survey results will be shared with districts and counties to be used as efficient odor management data," adding, "We will do our best to manage odors through effective surveys so that people can live in a healthier and more pleasant environment."

The air quality survey is divided into the first and second halves of the year and is conducted more meticulously during periods when odor complaints are concentrated, with measurements taken more than twice a day, three times a day (dawn, daytime, nighttime) by time zone.
