Opening of 10 Types of Disaster Safety Data Including Earthquakes
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 12th that it has completed the first phase of the 'Disaster Safety Data Sharing Platform' project, which is being promoted as part of the national agenda items 'Establishment of a Scientific Disaster Safety Management System' and 'Comprehensive Measures for the Reorganization of the Government-wide National Safety System,' and will open disaster safety data through its website starting tomorrow.
Until now, to find disaster safety data, one had to visit multiple websites of different agencies, and especially in the private sector, the system for sharing disaster safety data with public institutions was not smooth, making it difficult to quickly receive necessary information in urgent disaster situations.
With the completion of the first phase of the project, the types of data being released this time include a total of 10 types: 5 natural disasters such as earthquakes and 5 social disasters such as infectious diseases, and the plan is to expand to a total of 57 types by 2024 when the third phase is completed.
In addition, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will actively seek ways for citizens, businesses, and the government to collaborate centered on the opened platform along with the opening of disaster safety data.
Joo Sang-myeong, Director of the Safety Policy Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, “Disaster safety data is the foundation of scientific disaster management and has very high utility not only in the public sector but also in the private sector,” adding, “We will further expand the opening of disaster safety data and continuously explore ways to utilize it.”
