On the 13th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will conduct a citizen voting to discover and promote excellent designs among the 'architectural review' cases processed through the Architectural Committee over the past two years, and to support architects. The voting will be held until the 31st of this month.
There are four voting categories in total: ▲'General buildings' including those subject to Seoul city review with 21 floors or more ▲'Multi-family housing' with more than 300 households ▲'Small public buildings' with a total floor area under 5,000㎡ ▲and 'Medium to large public buildings' exceeding that size. Voters can select up to two buildings per category.
In this vote, a total of 41 buildings across the four categories, selected through practical review from 354 cases including 193 private buildings and 161 public buildings, will compete. The voting results are expected to be announced in April.
Kim Seung-won, Director of Housing Supply Planning at Seoul City, said, "This vote is a process to request citizen participation in 'urban and architectural design innovation' and to survey preferences for architectural review cases that Seoul City has conducted so far." He added, "We ask for broad interest and participation in excellent architectural designs that will change Seoul’s landscape once completed."
