According to Yeosu City, Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong and City Council Chairman Kim Young-gyu, along with the promotion team, visited the San Diego Port Authority on the morning of the 9th local time and held a meeting attended by Director Frank Altason and related officials.

At the meeting, they received a briefing on the history of the San Diego Port, the operation status of the port site, and major revenue projects, and exchanged opinions. Afterwards, they toured the port site in person to observe the operational status.

In addition, the promotion team conducted promotional activities for the Islands Expo targeting the port authority officials. They invited the port director and staff to the expo and distributed promotional materials to introduce the beautiful islands of Yeosu.

On the day, Frank Altason, Director of the San Diego Port Authority, said, “A few years ago, I had a business trip to Seoul, which was a very beautiful city,” and added, “I look forward to visiting Yeosu City, which, like us, has a port and excellent marine scenery.”

Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu responded, “There were many points that Yeosu should benchmark, not only in the basic port function of logistics transportation but also in the cruise industry and convention center operations,” and said, “I look forward to seeing you again at the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.”

City Council Chairman Kim Young-gyu also commented, “It was impressive that the San Diego Port Authority plays a significant role in the local economy solely through port functions,” and added, “It seems it will be a great help in designing the next 100 years of our Yeosu Port, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary.”

Meanwhile, the promotion team actively conducted promotional activities by visiting the San Francisco Tourism Association and Airbnb headquarters on the 3rd local time, and on the 6th, they visited the Newport Beach City Hall, an international sister city, to deliver the official first invitation letter to Mayor Noah Bloom.
