Incheon City to Create 2,100 'Locally Tailored Jobs'... Strengthening Root and Semiconductor Industries

Incheon City announced on the 10th that it plans to create 2,134 customized local industry jobs this year with government support.

The city secured 6.6 billion KRW in national funds by being selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s public project, and will invest 8.7 billion KRW combining city and district funds to promote ▲Employment Stability Preemptive Response Package Project ▲Regional Innovation Project ▲Regional Plus Project.

The Regional Plus Job Project, introduced for the first time this year, is managed and conducted by the Incheon Employers Federation. It supports five projects including the Incheon Root Tomorrow Savings Program and the Incheon Semiconductor Career Connection Savings Program, targeting small and medium-sized root and semiconductor industries struggling with chronic labor shortages and recruitment difficulties.

The city expects to eliminate blind spots in existing policies and bring effects such as new youth inflow and employment retention of skilled workers.

The Regional Innovation Project is led by four specialized institutions including the Inha University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. It addresses job mismatches through customized employment support for airport area job changers and career changers, and also provides professional workforce training.

13 billion KRW will be invested in operating company-linked aviation and logistics employment academies, 3D technical support for small and medium aviation parts companies, youth MRO education for the future, and establishing the Air Job Center, a job platform for the Incheon Airport economic zone.

In particular, the Aviation MRO Project (Aerospace Industry-Academic Convergence Center) is producing results by training entry-level technicians in aircraft maintenance for specialized and meister high school students and graduates, achieving the nation’s first and only high school student aircraft maintenance technician recruitment linkage.

Now entering its fourth year, the Employment Stability Preemptive Response Package Support Project supports preemptive responses to employment crises by providing root industry specialized customized employment, root company consulting, root company hiring incentives, on-site difficulty improvements based on large, medium, and small cooperation models, and strengthening capabilities of root industry job seekers and workers. This year, a budget of 4.56 billion KRW will be invested.

So far, six institutions including Incheon Technopark (ITP) have led projects providing customized employment support, consulting, and job seeker capability enhancement for manufacturing-based root companies. This contributes to improving the competitiveness of root industry workers, the foundation of Incheon’s industry, and job creation.

An Incheon City official stated, "We will actively support job creation and employment stability so that the root and semiconductor industries, the city’s main industries, can overcome crises caused by economic downturns and labor shortages."
