Kim Byung-min "Close aide's death is tragic... Lee Jae-myung lacks responsibility"

Kim Byung-min, a Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, called the death of Jeon, a close aide of Lee Jae-myung, former Governor of Gyeonggi Province and leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, at his home "a very tragic event" and urged Lee to take political responsibility.

On the 10th, Kim said on BBS's 'Jeon Young-shin's Morning Journal,' "Among the cases Lee is currently indicted for, one of the Public Official Election Act violations involves his claim that he 'did not know' the late Kim Moon-gi, former head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office. Many people have died in connection with these matters," he stated.

Since the investigation into Lee began, this is the fifth death of his close aides. Kim pointed out, "Given that Lee is facing serious charges and even had an arrest warrant requested, he should feel a heavy and infinite sense of responsibility. It seems difficult to find any moral or political responsibility from Lee," he criticized.

He added, "I do not know how long such incidents will continue, but the tragic loss of human lives like this must never happen again. If Lee, who was the head of Gyeonggi Province, has at least a minimum sense of responsibility as a politician, only when he undergoes the warrant hearing related to the arrest warrant and takes legal and moral responsibility himself can the chain of misfortunes be broken," he said.

The newly formed leadership after the party convention has reached a consensus to exercise a spirit of inclusion but exclude the 'Lee Jun-seok faction.' He explained, "If we want the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and victory in next year's general election, no matter how many things we want to say, the premise must be our collective success. Yet, on the day of the party convention, even the president seemed to provoke controversy," adding, "Party members see this and say, 'Isn't this too much even for a former party leader?' and such voices are growing."

He continued, "From the party leadership's perspective, the spirit of inclusion and unity as one team is truly important and something we want to achieve, but there is bound to be tremendous backlash from many members within the party. While we respect diverse voices, we hope that from now on, voices that go beyond the proper limits and cause great harm to others will be refrained from," he said.
