Kakao Makers Achieves Cumulative Transaction Amount of 700 Billion KRW

Kakao's impact commerce platform, 'Kakao Makers,' announced on the 10th that it has achieved a cumulative transaction amount of 700 billion KRW. This milestone was reached about seven months after surpassing 600 billion KRW in August last year.

Launched in February 2016, Kakao Makers started its service with the goal of innovating manufacturing by reducing inventory through a joint order and made-to-order system that produces after gauging demand. It has shown growth by providing production opportunities to manufacturers and creators, while connecting them with consumers.

The platform has gained steady user support, with an order success rate reaching 99%. Since its launch, it recorded transaction amounts of 100 billion KRW in 2019 and 500 billion KRW in 2021. As of last month, it has provided production opportunities to over 5,820 manufacturers and creators. More than 2.54 million users have participated, resulting in the sale of over 23.1 million products.

Kakao Makers is also introducing new and diverse projects in line with Kakao's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.

Launched in August 2021, 'Jegabatchi' supports the sales channels for discarded agricultural, livestock, and marine products as well as processed foods to ensure they receive fair value. The cumulative transaction amount has reached approximately 17 billion KRW, with about 3,500 tons of agricultural, livestock, and marine products purchased so far.

The upcycling project 'Saegabatchi,' which transforms discarded items into products with new purposes, is an eco-friendly activity that allows simultaneous participation in donation and environmental protection by upcycling used products. Since February last year, Saegabatchi has been conducted three times. Through the first and second projects, 20,000 pairs of socks and 1,000 cardigans were produced and donated to vulnerable children and elderly people. The third project is currently underway.

In addition, through the made-to-order brand 'P.O.M (Peace Of Mind),' various products for donation purposes have been introduced. Through ten campaigns in 2022, including aid for Ukrainian children and recovery from wildfires in Gangwon Province, about 270 million KRW was donated. In February, products were launched to support earthquake victims in Turkey, with approximately 180 million KRW planned to be donated to UNICEF.

Jung Young-joo, head of Kakao Makers, said, “Based on the values of coexistence and cooperation, we have tried various projects and worked to create opportunities for producers and consumers to act and experience together within Kakao Makers.” She added, “We will continue meaningful activities unique to impact commerce alongside Kakao’s ESG management efforts.”
