Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) is conducting a thorough cleaning throughout March to welcome spring.
Each neighborhood selects its own cleaning area and carries out focused cleaning together with the Clean Volunteer Group and professional organizations.
Mayor Moon Heon-il rolled up his sleeves and participated in the spring cleaning event held on the 9th in Guro 1-dong.
Mayor Moon said, “I thank everyone who participated in the cleaning, and I will make Guro a clean and warm place where you can feel the spring.”
On the 22nd, in celebration of Guro Clean Day, all 16 neighborhoods will simultaneously conduct cleaning and will also perform water cleaning on major arterial roads and street facilities.

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) announced that on the morning of the 9th, the Vietnam War Veterans Association Mapo-gu Branch carried out a cleanup activity along the Hongjecheon River in the area.
About 60 members of the Vietnam War Veterans Association Mapo-gu Branch moved from under Seongsan Bridge along Hongjecheon to Gajwa Station, collecting trash and waste along the riverbank to keep the river clean.
Mayor Park Kang-su said, “I am deeply moved by the passionate volunteer work of the Vietnam War veterans, who are heroes and life seniors, still actively serving the local environment.” He energetically encouraged the members at the start of their river cleanup activity.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam War Veterans Association Mapo-gu Branch was founded in 1987 to inherit the spirit of participation in the war and supports veterans’ families, offers consolation, and conducts patrol activities to prevent disasters and crimes in the area.

Lee Pil-hyung, Dongdaemun-gu Mayor, Serves as Honorary Safety Guardian for School Zone Inspection
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) conducted a joint public-private-police campaign on the morning of the 9th at Jeonnong Elementary School’s school route to prevent traffic accidents and create safe school routes.
To ensure safe and pleasant commuting for children starting the new semester, the district collaborated with Dongdaemun Police Station (Chief Jang Young-cheol), Northeast Education Support Office, Green Mothers’ Association, Model Drivers’ Association, Traffic Safety Practice Group, and Safety Guardians (Dongdaemun Senior Club) to carry out the campaign.
During the campaign, in addition to inspecting hazardous points around the school route, promotional materials (children’s personal safety alarms, emergency bands, L-shaped files) and safe walking guides were distributed to students to help them follow the ‘Three Principles of Safe Walking’ (Stop?Look?Walk).
They also informed drivers and parents on the way to school about observing safe speed limits in school zones and eliminating illegal parking to prevent accidents, raising public awareness of orderliness.
Dongdaemun-gu selected 50 Safety Guardians and 140 Traffic Safety Helpers from among senior job program participants and plans to deploy them around elementary school routes during commuting hours to patrol and ensure traffic safety, striving to create safe school routes.
Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “I deeply appreciate conducting a traffic safety campaign in school zones through cooperation with related organizations. We will identify and promptly resolve safety vulnerabilities around school routes to create a living environment where parents can send their children to school with peace of mind.”

16 people appointed across 8 fields including Administration, Culture & Sports, Social Welfare, and Child Welfare
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, appointed ‘Honorary Mayors’ to represent the voices of local residents on the 9th and urged them to convey diverse resident opinions.
The district held the ‘Gangseo-gu Honorary Mayor Appointment Ceremony’ at 11 a.m. in the district office’s main conference room, appointing 16 honorary mayors across 8 fields: administration, culture & sports, future economy, social welfare, child welfare, balanced city development, safe city, and health & hygiene.
The honorary mayor system was newly introduced to expand residents’ participation opportunities in district administration and to listen carefully to residents’ voices and reflect them in governance.
Two people were selected per field based on expertise and activities, and honorary mayors serve as unpaid honorary positions for one year.
In the administration field, Kangseo News representative Shin Nak-hyung, a local journalist conveying residents’ vivid voices, and Yoo Ok-bun, active as a member of the Hwagok 1-dong Residents’ Autonomy Committee and continuously contributing to local development, were appointed. In culture & sports, Kim Sang-hoon and Lee Seung-yong, who contributed to local cultural arts development and expansion of community sports, were appointed.
In the future economy field, Park Baek-su and Jeong Bong-sik, who contributed to protecting small business rights and revitalizing the local economy with strong dedication, were appointed. In social welfare, Kim Yong-je, president of the Gangseo-gu Disabled Persons’ Association Federation, and Yang Jeom-dong, president of the Seoul Disabled Persons’ Association Gangseo Branch, who expanded social participation opportunities and improved rights for the disabled, were selected.
In child welfare, Kim Mi-kyung and Kim Su-jin, active as school operation committee members leading efforts to create safe schools free from school violence, were appointed. In balanced city development, Park Chang-soon, chairman of the Airport Height Restriction Relief Promotion Committee, who actively worked to ease airport height restrictions, and Shin Jin-ho, chairman of the Gangseo Redevelopment Union, who strives to expedite housing maintenance projects in the old downtown area with dense old houses, were appointed.
In safe city, Park Jung-soon and Lee Hong-sang, who contributed to creating a safe and environmentally friendly city by resolving issues such as the combined heat and power plant, were appointed. In health & hygiene, Park Kyung-sook, president of the Big Star Sharing Volunteer Society, who has worked as a visiting nurse for decades and quietly practiced good deeds and volunteering for neighbors in need, and Han Im-seok, president of the Korean Beauty Association Gangseo Branch, who greatly contributed to the development of the beauty industry and health & hygiene, were elected.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “Please convey residents’ voices without distortion, including areas where we are lacking compared to other districts, welfare improvements, and inconveniences. I will listen carefully to residents’ precious voices and devote all my efforts to making Gangseo-gu, home to 570,000 residents, a happy place.”

Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, attended the ‘2023 Yangcheon-gu Volunteer Camp Appointment Ceremony’ held on the morning of March 9 at the Nanum Nuri Hall in Yangcheon Nanum Nuri Town and took a commemorative photo.
At the event, Mayor Lee presented plaques of appreciation to the outgoing full-time executives and camp leaders of the Volunteer Camp to encourage their hard work, and then awarded appointment letters and certificates of appointment to the newly starting executives, camp leaders, and activists.
