Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will begin accepting additional applications for the ‘2023 Cool Roof Support Project’ from the 10th to reduce greenhouse gases by improving energy efficiency in single-family homes and preparing for heatwaves.
A ‘Cool Roof’ refers to a roof that stays cool. This project involves applying bright-colored, high-efficiency coatings to block heat on roofs, thereby reducing heat accumulation in buildings and improving cooling energy efficiency.

The initial support target for 2023, which began in February, was four households, but due to high demand, the Environment Department, the responsible division, secured additional county funds to support six more households.
Eligibility remains the same: residents living in single-family homes within Haman-gun are eligible if the cool roof installation is carried out by a professional construction company specializing in waterproofing or painting. The support amount is also unchanged, up to 15,000 KRW per square meter.
To apply, applicants must sign a cool roof installation contract with a professional construction company (waterproofing or painting), then complete the required documents (refer to the notices on the Haman-gun website) and submit them in person to the Environment Policy Division on the 2nd floor of the Haman-gun Office Annex.
After installation is completed, the homeowner or the construction company can request the subsidy payment from Haman-gun with appropriate documentation. After review, the subsidy will be paid to the company.
An official from the county stated, “The early closure of the initial project and this additional application period show the high interest of residents in overcoming the climate crisis. We plan to continue implementing various climate crisis response policies to meet this demand and hope for active participation.”
