Welcoming the 8th New Member to the Stay-Type Agricultural Startup Support Center
City Supports Farming Settlement with 'One-Stop Service' Provided
Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk held the eighth entrance ceremony for the stay-type agricultural startup support center, ‘Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town,’ on the 8th since its opening in 2016.
At the entrance ceremony, about 50 people, including members of the Yeongju City Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village Association, trainees, and their families from 30 households, gathered to celebrate the beginning of their new farming life and were assigned gardens and vinyl greenhouses that will serve as their base for the year.
Looking at the regional distribution of the 30 trainee households, 21 households came from the Seoul metropolitan area including Seoul, and 9 households from Daegu, Ulsan, and other areas, confirming the strong enthusiasm of urban residents moving to Yeongju for farming.
‘Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town’ is a facility that supports urban residents who wish to return to farming and rural life in Yeongju City by providing agricultural education for a certain period to help them prepare for a stable relocation life.
The facility is fully equipped with infrastructure for agricultural professional technical education for prospective farmers, including trainee accommodations, gardens, education centers, practice farms, and facility greenhouses.
Based on excellent return-to-farming infrastructure, trainees will receive about 280 hours of education over the next 10 months through a systematic program including specialized technical education on crops of interest, practical training, and field experiences to improve their understanding of agriculture and rural areas.
The city plans to create a stable settlement environment by providing demand-oriented customized return-to-farming policies and various local integration programs for adaptation on site, aiming to make ‘Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town’ a place without return migration.
Kwon Young-geum, director of the City Agricultural Technology Center, said, “As the name Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town suggests, we will provide generous support so that the dreams of returning to farming and rural life can be realized, and we will do our best to help trainees harmonize, communicate, and coexist with local residents.”
The city plans to continuously expand the demand for returning to farming and rural life in Yeongju by promoting Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town and conducting special lectures on returning to farming and rural life through visits to Samsung SDI, KT, Ssangyong, KBS Training Center, and others.
