Lotte Confectionery Applies Eco-Friendly Packaging to 'Custard'... "Helps Carbon Neutrality"

On the 9th, Lotte Confectionery announced that it applied eco-friendly packaging, developed in collaboration with Lotte Central Research Institute and Yusang Industry, to its Custard products.

The eco-friendly packaging was manufactured using flexographic printing equipment. The flexographic printing method is suitable for preventing environmental pollution and reducing carbon emissions, and has received national green technology certification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Unlike conventional printing methods that use oil-based ink, this method uses water-based ink, which is safer. The embossing printing significantly reduces the use of ink as well as harmful chemical organic solvents. Additionally, a different drying method reduces greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to carbon neutrality.

Lotte Confectionery plans to produce the individual inner packaging of its representative products such as Chocochoc, Mon Cher, Bints, Harvest, and Vegetable Cracker using the flexographic printing method in the future, in addition to Custard. This will later be expanded to the outer packaging of Kkokkalcorn. The amount of ink and organic solvents used in packaging production is expected to be reduced by about 100 tons annually compared to before.

A Lotte Confectionery official stated, "We first applied eco-friendly packaging produced with flexographic printing equipment to Custard, and plan to expand its application to the inner packaging of various products. We will continue to invest in eco-friendly packaging to help protect the environment by reducing ink usage as well as greenhouse gas emissions."
