'Korean-Style Address System' Expands Overseas

Ministry of the Interior and Safety Announces Plans for International Engagement

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 9th that it has prepared and released the "Korean-style (K) Address Overseas Expansion Promotion Plan" to lay the groundwork for exporting Korea's address system abroad.

In this plan, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety intends to focus on ▲branding the Korean-style address by reflecting international standards, ▲overseas promotion, ▲establishing a foundation for overseas expansion, ▲establishing an international cooperation promotion system, and ▲preparing a comprehensive plan (master plan).

'Korean-Style Address System' Expands Overseas

First, by incorporating the Korean-style (K) address system into international standards, it will support domestic companies' overseas expansion and enable the Korean-style address to be used worldwide. In addition, the international promotion of the Korean-style (K) address will be actively pursued to raise global awareness.

Furthermore, for countries where address systems are not yet established, plans include signing memorandums of understanding for cooperation to introduce the Korean-style (K) address, thereby laying the foundation for overseas expansion. In addition, on March 16, a council composed of international cooperation organizations such as KOICA, companies and industries including the Address-based Industry Association, and experts in international standards and address information will be launched to establish an international cooperation promotion system. Finally, based on this year's achievements, a comprehensive plan (master plan) for the overseas expansion of the Korean-style (K) address will be announced next year.

Han Chang-seop, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, "Addresses are an important foundation for running a country, facilitating the convenience and safety of citizens' lives, and also a resource that enables various advanced services such as indoor navigation and drone delivery," adding, "we will spread the Korean-style (K) address to countries experiencing inconvenience due to incomplete address systems and increase the overseas expansion of related domestic companies."
