A researcher from the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment is conducting an odor status survey in an odor management area.
Gyeonggi Province is set to investigate the odor situation in the industrial complex area of Nueup-dong, Osan City.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Institute of Health and Environment announced on the 9th that it will conduct an odor status and air quality survey targeting the industrial complex area of Nueup-dong, Osan City, from next month until October.
The area around the Nueup-dong industrial complex in Osan City has been designated as an odor management area since 2010 under the Odor Prevention Act, and odor status surveys have been conducted annually.
An odor management area is designated when collective odor complaints occur or when odors in the area exceed or are likely to exceed emission standards, requiring odor reduction and efficient management.
The survey items include a total of 23 items such as complex odors, four types of fatty acids, and seven types of volatile organic compounds. The survey will be divided into the first and second halves of the year, with investigations and analyses conducted during dawn, daytime, and nighttime.
To confirm the impact of odor sources and affected areas, meteorological data such as odor occurrence frequency, wind direction, and wind speed will also be examined.
Seong Yeon-guk, head of the Air Environment Research Department at the Provincial Institute of Health and Environment, stated, "We have shared the odor status survey results with the relevant city to lay the foundation for preventing odor complaints and efficient odor management," adding, "We will do our best to minimize the inconvenience caused to residents by odors."
