Until the 15th, Co-hosted by Mapo Cultural Foundation and CJ ENM
Mapo Cultural Foundation (CEO Song Jeyong) announced on the 8th that it is recruiting rookie composers to participate as the 5th generation of 'Open Music' until the 15th.
'Open Music' is a project for discovering and nurturing rookie composers, meaning that opportunities are open (OPEN) to those who dream of becoming composers. Since its launch in 2018, it has selected individual composers and provided a creative foundation to enable them to actively engage in their work. Since 2020, Mapo Cultural Foundation has co-hosted the project with CJ ENM centered on the Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center, continuously providing composers with spaces to work anytime and various programs.
The rookie composers finally selected for this 5th generation will receive support including ▲creative grants (5 million KRW) and creative space support ▲mentoring with industry professionals ▲special lectures and practical programs related to lyric writing, composing, mixing, production, and copyright ▲business matching, and other top-level composer training and debut programs provided by the Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center and CJ ENM.
Over the past four years, Mapo Cultural Foundation and CJ ENM have discovered about 73 composer teams through Open Music. Through this, rookie composers have released over 350 new songs, supporting them to showcase their talents on new stages.
In particular, this year, the planned album ‘Choi Baekho - Chalna (刹那)’, produced in collaboration with composers from the 4th generation of 2022 Open Music and Mr. Choi Baekho, was nominated for the Best Pop category at the 2023 Korean Popular Music Awards.
Song Jeyong, CEO of Mapo Cultural Foundation, said, “Since the 'Open Music' project is a creator-centered support program that selects individual composers rather than songs, we hope many composers will participate in this recruitment, which allows rookie creators to develop the capabilities necessary to grow into professional composers.”
Applications can be submitted through the Open Music website. Regardless of genre, applicants must submit two original popular music compositions. Detailed information about the project can be found on the Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center or Open Music websites.
