Kim Ki-hyun elected new leader of ruling party: "Success of Yoon government, victory in next year's general election"

Kim Ki-hyun was elected as the next leader of the People Power Party.

At the 3rd Party Convention of the People Power Party held on the 8th at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, candidate Kim Ki-hyun received 244,163 votes, securing 52.93% of the vote. With a majority exceeding half, his election as party leader was confirmed without a runoff vote. Candidate Ahn Cheol-soo received 107,803 votes (23.37%), candidate Chun Ha-ram 69,122 votes (14.98%), and candidate Hwang Kyo-ahn 40,222 votes (8.72%).

Upon confirmation of his election, the new party leader Kim Ki-hyun bowed deeply and expressed his gratitude to the party members.

In his acceptance speech, Kim emphasized, “We must run toward only one goal,” adding, “First is the livelihood of the people, second is the livelihood of the people, and third is solely the livelihood of the people.”

He stated, “I will unite with party comrades as one body to revive the livelihood of the people and surely lead us to victory in next year’s general election,” and said, “We will honor our leaders such as candidates Ahn Cheol-soo, Hwang Kyo-ahn, and Chun Ha-ram, and create a united People Power Party through solidarity, inclusion, and balanced reconciliation.”

He then mentioned the reform tasks of the Yoon Seok-youl administration, including labor, pension, and education reforms, raising his voice to say, “Our ruling party must prove that it is a competent party, unlike the opposition.” Kim added, “I am strengthening all the dedication and sacrifice I can make to win next year’s general election,” and said, “If we must win the general election, I am prepared and ready to endure anything.”

Kim concluded by saying, “I will be a leader who treats party members as the owners,” and “Let us join hands and create a successful era for the People Power Party together.”
