German Researchers Name 'Kianumycin'
Inspired by Keanu Reeves in the Movie 'John Wick'
Derived from the Character of the Ultimate Combat Assassin
The recently discovered powerful antibacterial substance has been named after Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves (59).
It signifies the ability to decisively eliminate targets, just like Keanu Reeves in the movie 'John Wick'.
According to a report by the Washington Post (WP) on the 7th (local time), German scientists recently discovered a compound that kills harmful bacteria in humans and plants, and named it 'keanumycins' to imply strong combat power like Reeves' character in the film.
Keanu Reeves, the protagonist of the popular action movie series 'John Wick', appears as an assassin with the strongest combat skills in the film.
Sebastian Goetze, co-author of the research on this antibacterial substance, said, "I was basically surprised by its high activity," and explained, "It kills various bacteria very effectively, like an assassin or hitman."
The scientists, including Goetze, decided to name the antibacterial substance after Keanu Reeves last summer. While discussing names for the substance, the conversation shifted to movies, and then they got the naming idea while talking about the upcoming April release of Reeves' movie 'John Wick 4'.
According to the research published in the American Chemical Society journal, keanumycins A, B, and C are produced by Pseudomonas bacteria commonly found in soil and water, and are considered useful in suppressing infections. Typically, newly discovered compounds are named similarly to related species, but Goetze explained that this is the first time a compound has been named after a movie actor.
On the 4th, Reeves expressed his gratitude to the German scientists who recognized him during a Q&A session on the online community Reddit. Reeves said, "It should have been called John Wick (rather than my name)," but added, "Still, it's really cool. It's surreal to me."
