Dr. Yoo Kwon of Life Biotechnology Institute Wins Grand Prize at the 2nd Im Seong-gi Researcher Awards

On the 8th, the Im Seong-gi Foundation announced that Dr. Yoo Kwon of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) was selected as the Grand Prize winner of the 2nd Im Seong-gi Researcher Award. The 'Young Researcher Award,' given to researchers under the age of 45, was awarded to Professor Kang Ji-hoon of the Department of Cardiology at Seoul National University Hospital and Professor Kim Hye-young of the Department of Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine.

The Im Seong-gi Researcher Award, hosted by the Im Seong-gi Foundation, is the most prestigious award in the fields of biotechnology and medical science in Korea. An independent judging committee composed of scholars in medicine, pharmacy, and life sciences rigorously evaluates candidates to select the final winners. The grand prize winner receives a plaque and a prize of 300 million KRW, while each Young Researcher Award recipient receives a plaque and a prize of 50 million KRW.


About 50 people attended the award ceremony, including Song Young-sook, Chairwoman of Hanmi Pharmaceutical Group, the family of the late Chairman Im Seong-gi, Lee Kwan-soon, Chairperson of the Im Seong-gi Foundation, the three awardees, and their families. The ceremony was held at 'Museum Hanmi,' a newly built museum in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, operated by the Hanmi Photo Art Museum under the Gahyeon Cultural Foundation, a public interest foundation of Hanmi Pharmaceutical.


The ceremony proceeded with a welcome speech by Chairperson Lee Kwan-soon, congratulatory remarks by Yoo Wook-joon, President of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, and Won Hee-mok, Advisor to the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, followed by remarks from the awardees.


Chairperson Lee Kwan-soon said, "The three awardees selected this time have been honored for their high-level scientific achievements as well as research results with high applicability in the field of new drug development, which this award aims to promote. The Im Seong-gi Foundation will continue to lay the foundation for the advancement of biotechnology and medical science and support new drug development projects for rare disease patients suffering from the lack of treatments."
