Daejeon Health and Environment Research Institute Strengthens Residual Pesticide Testing on High-Consumption Spring Agricultural Products

The Daejeon Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 8th that it will strengthen pesticide residue inspections on high-consumption agricultural products during the spring season from the 8th until the end of next month.

The inspections will focus on spring greens such as chamnamul, chwinamul, naengi, dallae, meowi, and bomdong, which are high-consumption items, collected from wholesale markets, traditional markets, large supermarkets, and agricultural direct sales stores (local food) where they are distributed and sold.

Items that fail the inspection will be immediately seized and disposed of to prevent circulation in the market, and administrative measures such as banning entry into wholesale markets and imposing fines will be taken against the producers (shippers) of the affected items in accordance with relevant laws.

Last year, the institute inspected 313 cases of high-consumption spring agricultural products using the same method and detected 4 cases of spring greens, including bangpungnamul, exceeding the pesticide residue limits, all of which were fully disposed of and subjected to administrative actions.

Nam Sung-woo, the director of the institute, stated, “We will do our best to protect citizens’ food safety by strengthening inspections on agricultural products whose consumption rapidly increases seasonally.”
