Population Increased by 10 Last Month... 75 This Year So Far
The population of Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has increased for two consecutive months. This is the only increase among local governments in Gyeongnam Province following January. According to the resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 8th, the population of Sancheong-gun last month was 34,103, an increase of 10 from January (34,093).
Compared to last year (December), the population of Sancheong-gun increased by 65 in January and 10 in February, totaling an increase of 75 this year. The natural decrease, including births (10) and deaths (91) this year, was 81.

The number of people moving in was 743, and the number moving out was 588, resulting in a net increase of 155 from migration, with one additional resident registration cancellation reversed. Notably, the population growth rate compared to last year was 0.22%, ranking first in the province, making Sancheong-gun the only one among the 18 local governments in Gyeongnam to experience population growth.
Sancheong-gun evaluated that the population increase is a remarkable achievement at a time when all other cities and counties in the province are experiencing population decline compared to the previous year. It is also analyzed as the effect of various policies implemented by Sancheong-gun.
An official from the county stated, “Population policy is not limited to population alone but is intricately intertwined like a complex thread. When all areas such as local income generation, youth housing, child education, and leisure activities work smoothly like gears, population policy can also be effective.”
Sancheong-gun is making various efforts to respond to population decline.
