Ministry of National Defense Files Injunction to Ban Sales of Bu Seung-chan's Book Amid 'Cheongong Allegations'

"Fortune Teller Cheongong Involved in Presidential Residence Selection"

The Ministry of National Defense has filed a request with the court to ban the sale of a book written by former Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Bu Seung-chan, who raised suspicions that a fortune teller was involved in the process of selecting the presidential residence.

According to the Ministry of National Defense on the 7th, the Ministry submitted a provisional injunction to ban the sale of former spokesperson Bu Seung-chan's book titled 'Power and Security - The Defense Secrets of the Moon Jae-in Administration and the Cheongong Suspicion' to the Seoul Central District Court on the 3rd. The reason cited for the provisional injunction was "disclosure of military secrets."

Earlier, the Defense Counterintelligence Command (DCC) launched an investigation last month into former spokesperson Bu on suspicion of violating the Military Secrets Protection Act. According to the DCC, Bu was reported for violating the Military Secrets Protection Act by exposing sensitive military secrets in his book, including details of meetings between senior South Korean and U.S. officials.

Separately from these charges, Bu's book sparked controversy by raising suspicions that the fortune teller "Cheongong" was involved in the process of selecting the presidential residence. Bu wrote in the book that in April of last year, during the selection of the presidential residence, he heard from Nam Young-shin, then Chief of Staff of the Army, that fortune teller Cheongong and senior officials from the Presidential Transition Committee visited the Army Chief of Staff’s official residence and the Army Seoul Office within the Ministry of National Defense.
