Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa stated that he "expects South Korea to faithfully implement the measures" regarding the compensation solution for forced labor during the Japanese colonial period announced by the South Korean government.
At a press conference on the 7th, Foreign Minister Hayashi responded to a question about whether the irreversibility of the plan announced by the South Korean government the previous day was guaranteed, saying, "The South Korean government will make every effort to gain the understanding of the plaintiffs."
He evaluated the announcement of the compensation solution as "a measure to restore the Korea-Japan relationship, which had been in a very difficult state, to a healthy condition." He added, "I understand that the South Korean government's announcement does not assume the exercise of subrogation rights."
When asked whether the Japanese government's statement the previous day inherited reflection and apology regarding colonial rule and aggression, he explained, "The Japanese government inherits the positions of successive cabinets as a whole," and "This was reaffirmed on this occasion."
