The Onnamwon Community Contest Project has supported over 120 community activities over the past five years since the resident proposal contest project began in 2018, strengthening community self-reliance and developing into social economy organizations.

The contest project budget is divided into entry-level and development-level stages, with project funds of 5 million KRW and 10 million KRW respectively.

Especially this year, buoyed by the recovery of daily life, 30 community teams applied, and after fierce competition, 13 community teams were selected. They are expected to be active in various fields such as ▲sharing and care ▲environmental conservation ▲archiving ▲co-parenting ▲community economy.

Looking at the main projects of the selected teams, ‘Happiness Dreamers’ conducts baking practice and vocational training for young adults with developmental disabilities, and ‘Namwon Moms’ Love Room Education Community’ runs a project called “Uri Modu Aesseuji (ESG),” which includes co-parenting followed by upcycling.

‘Yangchon Village Association’ plans to revitalize village festivals utilizing the village’s geographical resources, and ‘Munhwa Dabangsa Jirisum’ plans active activities with different content such as realizing ‘community archiving’ through village records and life story publications.

Also, ‘J&UB (Jirisan and Unbong)’ is led by a young couple who moved to the countryside and aims to establish a system where people can stay in Unbong, while ‘Nowon’ plans to revitalize the old downtown through regular potluck parties and youth open mic events.

Mayor Choi Kyung-sik said, “I am grateful for the enthusiastic interest and participation of communities in the contest project, and we will actively support the fostering of communities that are establishing a culture of autonomy and cooperation in the local society.”
