The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will operate a ‘Visiting Korean Language Class’ for mid-term immigrant and foreign students starting in April.
The ‘Visiting Korean Language Class,’ which has been running since 2013, aims to improve communication skills and build confidence in the Korean language for mid-term immigrant and foreign students who have difficulties in speaking and listening to Korean.
The program supports the placement of Korean language instructors and consulting visits by the Multicultural Education Support Team according to school applications each semester.
Schools offering the Korean language class must operate after-school classes based on 50-minute units, with up to 2 hours per day and 10 hours per week. However, if the guarantee of regular class hours is confirmed, operation within regular classes is also possible.
Schools wishing to operate the program in the first semester should apply by 5 p.m. on the 17th through the K-EduFine data aggregation system.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “One of the difficulties mid-term immigrant youth face in settling into Korean society is the language barrier. We will actively enhance their communication skills and social adaptability through Korean language education.”
