Sejong City has set its government budget acquisition target for next year at 1.5 trillion won and will begin full-scale activities to secure the budget.
On the 7th, the city held the '2024 Government Budget Acquisition Report Meeting.' The meeting was organized to set the budget acquisition target for next year, review the implementation plan, and discuss anticipated issues and countermeasures for securing the budget for major projects.
At the meeting, the budget acquisition target for next year was presented as a 10% increase compared to the previous year (1.3874 trillion won).
The direction for securing the government budget will focus on reflecting priority and new projects for the construction of the future strategic capital.
Major new national projects for next year include ▲ the construction of the National Safety Experience Center ▲ designation as a cultural city ▲ customized integrated river projects for the Bidang River area ▲ and maintenance of the Wolha Stream natural disaster risk improvement district.
Key projects discussed included the construction of the National Assembly Sejong Office Building and the President’s Second Office to complete the administrative capital, as well as countermeasures for building the Daepyeong-dong Comprehensive Sports Facility to ensure the successful hosting of the 2027 Summer World University Games.
Earlier, Mayor Choi Min-ho of Sejong City met with the Budget Office Director of the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 9th of last month, and on the 2nd, he met with Song In-seok, the senior deputy floor leader of the People Power Party, to request support for advancing Sejong’s key projects.
After the report meeting, the city plans to continue requesting support for major pending projects by meeting with officials from central government ministries such as the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Mayor Choi said, “This year and next year are critical turning points for completing the future strategic capital,” adding, “We will do our utmost to secure the related budget to fully utilize factors and opportunities for discovering new projects accordingly.”
