Hamyang-gun Opens Resident Application System for Intensive Safety Inspection Targets

Targeting Aging and Vulnerable Multi-Use Facilities

Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is conducting the ‘2023 Intensive Safety Inspection Resident Application System’ to raise residents' safety awareness and prevent disasters in aging and vulnerable facilities.

The ‘Resident Application System’ allows residents to apply for safety inspections on facilities they believe need checking. This system was first introduced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2022 to expand resident participation during the intensive safety inspection period from April 17 to June 16, aiming to eliminate safety blind spots and ensure effective safety inspections.

However, facilities with separate managers (management entities), buildings under construction, those involved in lawsuits (disputes), or facilities subject to individual law inspections are excluded from the application. The system is limited to multi-use facilities such as village halls, senior citizen centers, bridges, welfare centers, and aging buildings.

The application period is until March 17. Detailed information can be found on the Hamyang-gun website’s notice board, and applications can be submitted via the Safe Report app or by visiting the town or township office. Submitted applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, and applicants will be individually notified if their facility is selected.

For facilities selected for inspection, a joint safety inspection will be conducted by experts in various fields including architecture, civil engineering, electricity, gas, and firefighting, and the results will be communicated to the facility managers.

If any risk factors are found in the facilities, the urgency and degree of danger will be assessed, and immediate correction requests or repair and reinforcement plans will be provided to the management entities to encourage follow-up actions. Continuous management will be maintained, but no separate financial support will be provided for addressing the pointed-out issues.

A county official stated, “We hope many residents will participate so that risks can be eliminated through intensive safety inspections of facilities they feel need checking in their daily lives.”
