On the 6th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it will conduct the ‘Small Library Revitalization Support Contest Project’ to expand the local reading culture base.
Through this contest project, Buk-gu plans to select about 30 small libraries and invest approximately 120 million KRW in project funds to support book purchase costs, program operation costs, volunteer expenses, club operation costs, and more.
To provide customized support for each library, the contest will be conducted in four categories: ▲Community-based ▲Hub-type ▲Specialized ▲General, with differential support ranging from 1.75 million KRW to a maximum of 8 million KRW per location.
Applicants must be private libraries registered within Buk-gu and submit application documents by the 16th either by visiting or mailing them to the Buk-gu Office Library Division.
However, since 5% of the project cost must be self-funded, institutions without their own operating budget, those that do not meet registration and operation standards, or those that have not participated in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s library operation survey will be excluded from support.
Buk-gu plans to form a screening committee in April to finalize project recipients after reviewing public interest, data management, self-reliance intention, and resident participation.
Moon In, the head of Buk-gu Office, said, “There are many small libraries in Buk-gu with excellent accessibility for residents, making them perfect for enjoying reading. We will actively strive to revitalize small libraries so that all local residents can enjoy reading culture services.”
