Kakao Mobility announced on the 6th that it has significantly expanded the scope of its ‘Platform Worker Health Protection Support Project,’ which has been in operation since July last year. Starting this month, not only existing designated driver workers but also quick delivery and foot delivery workers will be able to receive free health checkups.
Kakao Mobility conducted the ‘Designated Driver Health Checkup Free Support Project’ for a total of five months from July to November last year as part of support measures for night workers through collective bargaining with the National Designated Driver Labor Union and field feedback. Through this, a total of about 860 designated driver workers completed health checkups, and approximately 400 received health-related consultations.
Following last year, Kakao Mobility will participate again this year in the ‘Platform Worker Workplace Improvement Support Project’ led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in partnership with the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency. The scope of support will be expanded from designated drivers to quick and foot delivery workers, and Kakao Mobility will cover the entire self-pay portion, which is 20% of the occupational health examination cost provided by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, allowing these workers to receive free health checkups.
Kakao Mobility has not only reduced the economic burden on platform workers by supporting their self-pay portion but also simplified the application process to enhance convenience. Reservations can be made through notices in the Kakao T designated driver app or the Picker app until November 30. To increase the health checkup participation rate, a promotion will also be held to provide health supplies to those who complete the health checkups.
In the second quarter of this year, additional worker protection projects for designated driver workers, such as veteran driver training, will be operated to improve the workplace environment for platform workers.
Ryu Geung-seon, CEO of Kakao Mobility, stated, “Following last year’s free health checkup support for designated drivers, we have expanded the scope this year to include quick and foot delivery workers. We hope this will provide practical help in protecting the health of all platform workers in the industry beyond Kakao T and in creating a healthy workplace.” He added, “We plan to continue expanding support programs for platform workers who are in the blind spots of health welfare benefits and strive for long-term mutual growth and coexistence.”
