HMM Provides Free Transportation and Containers for Humanitarian Aid to Turkey

HMM announced on the 6th that it will provide free maritime transportation of relief supplies and residential containers for T?rkiye, which is currently facing difficulties due to the recent earthquake.

HMM, the only domestic company offering regular European services, began transporting 50 TEU (1 TEU equals one container measuring 6 meters in length) of relief supplies on a vessel departing from Busan Port to Mersin Port in T?rkiye on the 3rd.

It plans to transport approximately 20 TEU of relief supplies again on the 17th of this month. Furthermore, HMM intends to actively continue additional shipments through consultations with the Turkish Embassy. It has also secured 150 residential containers to provide free of charge. These emergency residential containers will be utilized as temporary shelters and for various other purposes.

In addition, HMM will support the transportation of mobile containers that were used as accommodation facilities during last year’s Qatar World Cup. Qatar has expressed its intention to donate these containers. HMM plans to transport 570 containers from Hamad, Qatar to ?skenderun, T?rkiye using a multipurpose vessel.

Currently, relief supplies such as tents, blankets, and emergency food are being gathered at a logistics warehouse prepared by the Turkish Embassy in Korea. However, delivery has been delayed due to unfavorable conditions for transporting them to T?rkiye. Accordingly, HMM plans to provide maximum support by utilizing its vessels and other resources despite the challenging transportation infrastructure in T?rkiye, fulfilling its responsible role from a humanitarian perspective.

An HMM official stated, “With hopes for the swift recovery from the earthquake damage in T?rkiye, we plan to carry out humanitarian activities by leveraging the expertise of the shipping company.”
