EN Corporation, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 3rd that its subsidiary Hanseong Cleantec has signed a business agreement with Korea Water Resources Corporation to conduct research and development for the localization of ultrapure water.
In July 2021, Hanseong Cleantec signed a project agreement with the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment for the "Development of Localization Technology for High-Purity Industrial Water (Ultrapure Water) Production Process." The project aims to localize the EPC sector of ultrapure water production, an essential material in semiconductor manufacturing processes currently monopolized by Japanese companies.
Currently, the first phase of a semiconductor-grade ultrapure water demonstration plant at SK Siltron Plant 2 in Gumi has been successfully completed, and trial operations are underway. Hanseong Cleantec is responsible for design and construction, while Korea Water Resources Corporation and Hanseong Cleantec jointly manage plant operations, giving this agreement even greater significance.
Additionally, a Hanseong Cleantec official stated that based on their capabilities in executing national projects, they have secured an EPC contract worth 83.6 billion KRW for ultrapure water from SK Siltron, a wafer manufacturing company producing core semiconductor raw materials. Accordingly, Hanseong Cleantec will undertake the entire process from design to equipment procurement and construction of large-capacity ultrapure water manufacturing facilities at SK Siltron in Gumi, which is emerging as a major semiconductor supply base planning large-scale investments.
An industry insider commented, "SK Siltron’s decision to recognize Hanseong Cleantec’s technological capabilities and grant them the opportunity to participate in the bidding competition for the ultrapure water market, previously monopolized by Japanese companies, has greatly contributed to the independence of semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment." They added, "This contract has laid the foundation for Hanseong Cleantec to advance into the global market."
A company representative stated that by successfully executing the national project for localizing SK Siltron’s ultrapure water production process, they have demonstrated differentiated technological capabilities. They aim to achieve self-reliance in technologies that have depended on some advanced countries such as Japan, the United States, and France in the estimated 23 trillion KRW global ultrapure water market, securing competitiveness on par with leading global ultrapure water companies.
Meanwhile, EN Corporation owns a total of four environmental affiliates, spearheaded by its wholly owned subsidiary Hanseong Cleantec (100%). The company is accelerating its eco-friendly business centered on EN Water Solution (100%), a specialist in liquid designated waste and wastewater treatment for the semiconductor and display industries; Eclean Water (100%); and Daeyang Enviro (80%), a water treatment specialized O&M company.
