Spring Flower Festival Throughout Songpa-gu... 'Spring Theme Flowerbed' Created on the Traffic Island at Jamsil Station Intersection

Pansies and Violas Planted on Traffic Island at Jamsil Station Intersection, Completing ‘Spring-Themed Flower Beds’

Street Planters and Hanging Flower Pots to be Installed on 11 Major Routes Including Songpa-daero

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu: “We Will Create a Flowering Streetscape to Gift Beautiful Urban Views to Residents”

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is transforming major roadsides and bus stops into “streets blooming with beautiful flowers all year round” to welcome spring.

The district is creating floral streetscapes filled with seasonal flowers, focusing on areas with high foot traffic in key urban centers. This aims to offer residents a floral atmosphere throughout the year to brighten their daily lives.

From March through the end of the year, seasonal flowers will be planted along 11 routes including Songpa-daero, Olympic-ro, and Baekjegobun-ro, as well as at major intersections, roads, and bus stops.

First, in early March, the spring-themed flower beds on the traffic island at Jamsil Station intersection were completed. Covering a total area of 250㎡, pansies, violas, and other spring flowers were planted to create a vibrant spring landscape.

In April, hanging flower pots will be installed on streetlight poles and at bus stops along 11 major routes including Songpa-daero. Colorful and eye-catching species such as Wave Petunia and Begonia will be planted to enliven the road environment.

Additionally, the district plans to further enhance the seasonal atmosphere by adding themed flower beds on major roads, installing street planters at key intersections, and planting hanging flower pots at central bus stops. This will allow residents to experience the changing seasons through diverse flowers throughout the year. The project will also be linked with the ‘Songpa-daero Premium Street Development’ plan, introducing design concepts into urban spaces to maximize the project’s impact beyond just floral streetscapes.

Last year, Songpa-gu planted flowers along three major routes including Songpa-daero and installed a total of 970 hanging and street planters, revitalizing the bleak urban landscape and increasing resident satisfaction.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “We hope the spring flowers blooming throughout Songpa-gu bring small moments of happiness to residents’ daily lives. We will utilize Songpa-gu’s rich natural environment infrastructure to create streets blooming with flowers all year round where people want to stay.”

Seocho-gu Hosts ‘Visiting Flower Seat Concerts’ Featuring Young Artists’ Street Music Performances from April to November

Recruiting 50 Teams This Year to Expand Participation, Offering Mobile Concerts at Requested Locations Such as Apartments

Regular Performances Held Weekly at Four Outdoor Zones During Lunch and Evening, Providing Healing Through Diverse Music Genres

Enjoy music from your balcony!

Seocho-gu’s ‘Visiting Flower Seat Concert,’ which has held music performances in outdoor spaces like parks and plazas, will this year bring concerts right to residents’ doorsteps.

Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the ‘2023 Visiting Flower Seat Concert’ featuring young artists’ street music performances starting next month.

The ‘Visiting Flower Seat Concert’ is a small music concert where young artists visit outdoor spaces within the district to present various music genres such as classical, jazz, K-pop, and Korean traditional music (gugak) to residents. Since its inception in 2018, this will be the 6th edition, with a total of 315 teams and 1,203 participants up to last year.

This year, the number of recruited teams has increased from 35 to 50 to provide more performance opportunities for young artists and offer residents a wider variety of musical experiences. The program includes regular performances and special planned concerts based on story requests.

First, a new program called ‘Seoripul Music Box (tentative name)’ will visit locations requested by residents through story submissions. Each session features 2 to 3 young artist teams performing 60-minute concerts from a mobile performance vehicle at places such as apartments, residential areas, and schools mentioned in the requests.

For example, if apartment residents apply, a concert in their preferred genre will be held in the complex’s plaza. Residents can enjoy the performance comfortably not only near the stage but also from their balconies. Applications are accepted monthly via the district office website and social media.

Additionally, regular ‘Flower Seat Concerts’ will be held every Tuesday through Saturday during lunch (12 PM to 1 PM) and evening (6 PM to 7 PM) at key locations in four zones. Young artists from various genres will provide diverse performances to offer healing to residents.

The concert venues are ▲ Seocho Zone: ‘Sinjung Children’s Park,’ located in the nation’s only music culture district ▲ Banpo Zone: ‘Paris 15th District Park’ in Seorae Village, a small French neighborhood in Seoul ▲ Bangbae Zone: ‘Bangbae Back Field Park’ near Bangbae Cafe Alley ▲ Yangjae Zone: ‘Yangjaecheon Riverside Stage,’ winner of the Asia Urban Landscape Award.

The district is recruiting 50 young artist teams from various genres to provide high-quality music performances to residents. Selected teams will have 1 to 2 performance opportunities each from April to November. Each artist will receive a performance fee of 200,000 KRW, with a maximum of 800,000 KRW per team, along with stage and sound equipment support to fully showcase their passion and talent.

Eligible applicants are performance groups of young artists aged 19 to 39 capable of classical, K-POP, indie band, gugak, magic shows, and other performances. Applications are open until the 10th of this month. However, teams already selected or provided performance opportunities in cultural projects hosted by Seocho-gu this year are excluded.

The district will conduct a first round of document screening and a second round of video screening by the end of this month, considering performance capability, artistic quality, and audience communication skills, and will notify applicants individually of the results and subsequent schedules.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “We will continue to hold various cultural and artistic performances close to residents’ lives so that they can comfortably enjoy cultural experiences.”

Public Wi-Fi, Electronic Signboards, Smart Alerts, and Intelligent CCTV Installed

Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 6th that it will create a ‘Smart Safe Ansan Jarak-gil’ by early next month, integrating advanced technology into the Ansan (鞍山) area, a local tourist attraction.

The district will enhance convenience and safety for visitors to Ansan by utilizing information and communication technologies (ICT) such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and wired and wireless networks.

The project covers the entire Ansan area (1,933,763㎡) located in the center of Seodaemun-gu.

A self-managed information communication network (6 km) capable of fast transmission and reception of large data will be established.

Additionally, 40 public Wi-Fi access points will be installed along the entire Ansan Jarak-gil to provide free internet access.

Four digital signboards (electronic information boards) will be set up to deliver various district information and safety messages.

Six ‘Smart Alert’ devices will be installed to quickly and accurately display information on fine dust, temperature, and humidity. These devices indicate ultrafine dust, fine dust, and ozone levels using four colors?blue (good), green (moderate), yellow (bad), and red (very bad)?along with emoticon faces.

Fifteen multifunctional smart poles will be installed, equipped with public Wi-Fi, digital signboards, smart alerts, LED security lights, and intelligent CCTV.

The intelligent CCTV can recognize objects (people, items), analyze behaviors (illegal dumping, falling, assault), and monitor disasters (fire, smoke), providing real-time data to the ‘Seodaemun-gu CCTV Integrated Control Center’ for prompt response to incidents.

Mayor Lee Seong-heon said, “We expect that the creation of the smart safe path will allow many people to enjoy Ansan more conveniently and safely. We will continue to strive to realize a smart Seodaemun.”
