For Infants Aged 2 to 6 Months
Vaccination Must Be Administered at Recommended Time for Effectiveness
Pohang City will provide free rotavirus vaccination for infants aged 2 to 6 months starting from the 6th.
Rotavirus is one of the most common causes of gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide, causing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain upon infection. Completing the vaccination between 2 and 6 months of age provides preventive effects.
Until now, the rotavirus vaccine was an optional vaccination with an individual cost of 300,000 KRW, but starting this year, it has been included in the national immunization program and can be received free of charge from the 6th.
The recommended vaccination period is from 2 months to within 6 months of age. Depending on the vaccine type, 2 to 3 doses should be completed (▲ Rotarix: 2 doses at 2 and 4 months of age ▲ Rotateq: 3 doses at 2, 4, and 6 months of age).
The vaccination can be administered free of charge at designated medical institutions in the area, and the nearest vaccination centers can be checked on the Immunization Helper website.
Kim Jeong-im, Director of Nam-gu Public Health Center, stated, “The free rotavirus vaccination program is expected to reduce the burden on families and help increase the preventive effect against gastrointestinal infectious diseases that may occur during infancy.”
