Chairman Lee Mankyu of the Daegu Metropolitan Council (People Power Party, Jung-gu) was reported on the 5th to have operated the ‘Daeguro Taxi’ affiliated with Geumok Transport throughout the city of Daegu on the 3rd, listening to the sincere stories of citizens and promoting the use of Daeguro Taxi to the public.
Following January, Chairman Lee personally operated the Daeguro Taxi again, spending meaningful time listening to the vivid life stories of Daegu citizens and informing them about Daegu city policies that citizens are curious about or may have overlooked. The ‘Daeguro Taxi’ is a Daegu-style public taxi call service that started at the end of last year.
On the 1st, Lee Man-gyu (right in the photo), chairman of the Daegu Metropolitan Council, who took part in a one-day taxi driver experience, is receiving a passenger's luggage at Daegu Airport and loading it into the taxi trunk.
At a driver’s diner where he stopped briefly for lunch, Chairman Lee expressed gratitude to a taxi driver he met during the first taxi operation for resolving the issue of restroom access near Chilseong Overpass.
Chairman Lee announced plans to support management and operation costs so that open restrooms can be freely used by taxi drivers and the general public in the future.
Chairman Lee of the Daegu Metropolitan Council said, “Taking this one-day driver experience as an opportunity, we plan to comprehensively renovate the currently operating open restrooms, and to secure more gas station restrooms so that drivers can park right in front of the gas station and use the restroom comfortably.”
After completing the operation, the one-day wage earned from driving a commercial taxi will be fully donated through organizations such as the Community Chest of Korea.
Chairman Lee plans to conduct quarterly visits to explore public welfare and continue creating opportunities to communicate directly with citizens.
