When the Spring Breeze Blows, Let's Walk Along the Anyangcheon Riverside Trail

Yangcheon-gu expands the riverside walking trail along the refreshing Anyangcheon by 1.9km, completing a total of 3.1km trail

‘Palm mat riverside walking trail’ created from Ogeumgyo Bridge to Guro-gu boundary, 18 benches installed for relaxing ‘mulmeong’ moments

Plans to focus on Anyangcheon family garden and MZ Sports Plaza under Mokdonggyo Bridge for future Anyangcheon maintenance

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) has expanded the riverside walking trail along Anyangcheon from the existing 1.2 km by an additional 1.9 km, completing a total of 3.1 km section where residents can comfortably walk close to the riverside.

Anyangcheon is a popular place for residents to rest and enjoy leisure activities, but until now, the walking paths along the riverside within the entire 5.4 km section of Anyangcheon in the district were only about 1.2 km, including approximately 800 m from Sinjeonggyo Bridge to Omokgyo Bridge and 430 m from Huimanggyo Bridge to the woodball field. Most pedestrian paths were located alongside the embankment bike paths, far from the river, which was disappointing for visitors who wanted to walk along the Anyangcheon riverside.

In response, the district actively reflected residents’ demands for longer riverside walking trails and implemented projects to expand the riverside trail and create rest areas while maintaining Anyangcheon.

First, as part of the ‘Anyangcheon Anyang District River Environment Maintenance Project’ led by the Ministry of Environment at the end of last year, a themed flower garden was created in an approximately 20,000㎡ area between Mokdonggyo Bridge and Yangpyeonggyo Bridge, planting about 180,000 plants of 12 species of flowering and grass plants, with a 659 m walking trail constructed through it. Additionally, a 383 m deck road was installed on the embankment slope between Sinjeonggyo Bridge and Ogeumgyo Bridge, allowing visitors to overlook the riverside from a higher vantage point.

Furthermore, a 2 m wide and 900 m long palm mat riverside walking trail was created last second half of the year in the area from Ogeumgyo Bridge to the Guro-gu boundary. Named ‘Anyangcheon Tree Garden,’ this area had previously been just passed by cyclists and walkers. However, with 18 benches installed along the trail, it has transformed into a place where visitors can enjoy the riverside by ‘mulmeong’ (staring at water) or reading a book while taking a break.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Within the 5.4 km Anyangcheon section in Yangcheon-gu, there are various paths such as bike paths, pedestrian paths, embankment roads, and small paths, but the newly added 1.9 km riverside walking trail will allow residents, who have had a hard time due to COVID-19, to enjoy Anyangcheon in more diverse ways.”

He added, “We will continue to make efforts so that Anyangcheon becomes the center of residents’ cultural and leisure life through projects such as creating the Anyangcheon family garden and the MZ Sports Plaza under Mokdonggyo Bridge.”

Gwanak-gu operates walking tours with village tourism guides

Walking tours with guides on ‘Gang Gam-chan 10-ri Road’ and ‘Gwanak, Democracy Road’ highlighting historical and cultural features

New healing course ‘Sumgil, Shimgil, Sunryegil’ at Catholic Samsung Mountain Holy Site

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) operates village tourism walking tours where visitors can enjoy the history, culture, and natural scenery of Gwanak-gu with village tourism guides.

The walking tours consist of three courses: ▲‘Gang Gam-chan 10-ri Road,’ focusing on landmarks around Nakseongdae, the birthplace of the Goryeo general Gang Gam-chan ▲‘Gwanak, Democracy Road,’ which tours Seoul National University and Park Jong-cheol Street ▲and the newly operated healing walking course ‘Sumgil, Shimgil, Sunryegil’ centered on the Samsung Mountain Holy Site.

Especially, ‘Sumgil, Shimgil, Sunryegil’ is a newly launched course this year that runs from the Samsung Mountain Holy Site trail through Gwanakjeong Pavilion to Yaksusa Temple. The Samsung Mountain Holy Site, where the remains of three Catholic martyrs who died in the 1839 Gihae Persecution are enshrined, is located on Gwanaksan Mountain and is known as a popular tourist spot frequently visited by hikers.

The district newly installed a tour course map at the entrance of the Samsung Mountain Holy Site and conducted capacity-building training for 12 village tourism guides, aiming to develop ‘Sumgil, Shimgil, Sunryegil’ as a representative walking tour course of the district.

Village tourism guide tours are available for groups of five or more, with course and duration adjusted based on participants’ age and requests. Residents wishing to participate can apply by phone to the Gwanak-gu Office’s Culture, Tourism, and Sports Division at least one week in advance. The tours are completely free of charge.

In addition to operating walking tours, the district has created ‘General Gang Gam-chan Tour Zone’ and ‘Starlight Walking Trail’ around Nakseongdae Park, providing various attractions and activities at the district’s tourist spots. Through the ‘Village Tourism Innovation Living Lab Project,’ the district is also developing community-led tourism resources and striving to revitalize local tourism in diverse ways.

A district official said, “We hope that through the walking tours, residents can take a break from their busy daily lives and enjoy historical, cultural, and natural scenic spots while walking with village tourism guides and have a healing experience.” He added, “We will continue to discover various tourism products and do our best to revitalize village tourism.”
