Law 'Nomination of Candidates by Parliamentary Negotiation Groups Not Affiliated with the President'

Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, criticized the so-called '50 Billion Club Special Prosecutor Act' proposed by the Democratic Party of Korea on the 3rd, stating that "Lee Jae-myung, the subject of the investigation, intends to choose the prosecutor for the investigation according to his preference."

Minister Han, in response to a phone inquiry from Yonhap News regarding the special prosecutor bill proposal on the same day, criticized, "According to the special prosecutor law proposed by the Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung effectively decides the special prosecutor."

On the same day, the Democratic Party submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat a bill titled 'Act on the Appointment of a Special Prosecutor for the Truth Investigation into Illegal Fund Receipt and Unfair Transactions Related to the So-called 50 Billion Club and Others Involved in the Daejang-dong Development Project.'

Regarding the appointment of the special prosecutor, the bill proposed that two candidates be recommended by parliamentary negotiation groups not affiliated with the president, and the president would appoint one of them.

Minister Han pointed out this method of appointing the special prosecutor, saying, "The right to recommend two candidates lies with the 'parliamentary negotiation groups not affiliated with the president,' but that is only the Democratic Party," and added, "There is no need to explain why this makes no sense."

The special prosecutor bill includes provisions to investigate ▲ allegations of illegal funds and unfair profits received by those involved in the 50 Billion Club and the Daejang-dong development project ▲ illegal suspicions related to project funds and development profits for the Daejang-dong development ▲ preferential treatment and illegal suspicions in real estate transactions involving parties related to the Daejang-dong development project, including the owner of 'Cheonhwa-dongin' No. 3.
