Solo New Song After 8 Months, Final Activity Before Enlistment
Collaboration with US Rapper Jay Cole "Poured My Soul Into It"
"I wish to become a path of hope, so I, Gu Taeyeo...will repay, even from afar, becoming a butterfly"
On the 3rd, BTS member J-Hope (29, Jung Hoseok) released his new solo single 'on the street' (with J. Cole) along with the music video.
J-Hope's new song release comes about eight months after his first official solo album 'Jack In The Box' released last July.
'on the street' is a lo-fi hip hop genre song that harmonizes an easy-to-listen melody with warm lyrics. J-Hope participated in writing and composing, embedding a message of hope.
Inspired by the streets, the song expresses J-Hope's honest emotions amidst the scenery where many people walk, breathe, and various feelings flow.
BigHit Music introduced, "The 'street' that fills 'on the street' is full of thoughts and emotions gained from 'street dance,' which is both his starting point and root, a source of inspiration that makes one dream, and the traces of hard work he has put in so far."
This single features German-born American rapper and producer J. Cole, drawing attention. J. Cole is a musician who proved his skills by winning Best Rap Song at the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020. J-Hope's hopeful voice combined with J. Cole's deep rap creates a unique emotion. J. Cole also appeared in the 'on the street' music video, adding strength.
In the 'on the street' music video, J-Hope freely roams various streets of New York. After meeting a child, he surrenders his body to the rhythm, strolling the streets and whistling, infusing warmth throughout the song.
BigHit Music explained that the music video focuses on moments of various emotions such as parting and love passing by between scenes of J-Hope moving through narrow alleys, large streets, and subway stations.
Before the song release, J-Hope communicated with fans through a Weverse Live. Carrying the message of 'a path to walk together,' J-Hope greeted fans with the street as the background and said, "The path you (ARMY) walk is my path, and my path is your path."
J-Hope introduced, "'on the street' is a song filled with warm feelings that will bring great hope, comfort, and courage to the path you are heading forward on." He added, "J. Cole hyung made this song even more meaningful. I really feel like a blessed person. Throughout the work, I felt so good that I didn't know how to express these feelings. I don't wish for it to be a big hit, but I hope it quietly seeps into your memories and the path you walk."
On the 26th, J-Hope applied to cancel his enlistment deferral and began the process of fulfilling his military service obligations. Following BTS's eldest member Jin, who enlisted last December, he is expected to be the second in the team to start military service.
Before enlistment, J-Hope announced activities with 'on the street' and said in a Weverse Live broadcast, "I'm not enlisting immediately. I have a lot to show you before enlistment."
