Fire Agency to Promote Centralized Fire Safety Inspection of Logistics Warehouse Facilities

Inspection of 9 Sites Nationwide by Sector

On the 5th, the National Fire Agency announced that it will conduct a centralized fire safety inspection at nine logistics warehouse facilities nationwide from the 7th to the 24th.

The fire safety inspection targets nine facilities across the country, including Coupang Dongtan 1 Logistics Center (3 locations in Gyeonggi, 2 in Incheon, 1 in Gyeongnam, 1 in Changwon, 1 in Busan, and 1 in Jeonnam).

Fire Agency to Promote Centralized Fire Safety Inspection of Logistics Warehouse Facilities

The centralized fire safety inspection has been conducted since 2014 on about 120 designated fire safety objects to proactively prevent various safety accidents such as fires and to establish a rapid response system.

This inspection was selected for warehouse facilities considering that, due to the characteristics of logistics warehouses?wide and complex structures and large amounts of combustible materials?there is a concern for large-scale casualties and property damage in case of fire, following a major fire in a logistics warehouse in Gyeonggi Province in April 2020 that resulted in 48 casualties.

The on-site inspection team, composed of experts in firefighting, hazardous materials, architecture, electricity, and safety, will focus on ▲ the closure, blocking, and maintenance status of firefighting facilities ▲ the prior removal of evacuation obstacles such as evacuation routes ▲ the maintenance and management status of emergency generators ▲ and the safety management status of electricity, gas, hazardous materials, etc. Items that can be immediately supplemented will be addressed on-site, and for matters requiring administrative orders, corrective actions will be enforced along with thorough follow-up safety management guidance.

Kwon Hyuk-min, Director General of Fire Prevention at the National Fire Agency, said, “Since initial fire extinguishing and human evacuation are most important in logistics warehouse facilities, we will conduct comprehensive facility inspections along with safety consulting to ensure continuous safety management.”
