UK Casino Company's Lottery Simulation Results
38 Years to Win 9th Prize... Approaching UK Housing Prices
"Buying Lottery Tickets Hoping for a Life Turnaround Is..."
How long does it take for an ordinary person to buy a lottery ticket and win the jackpot? A British casino company conducted a simulation and found that even after buying lottery tickets for as long as 800 years, they failed to win first prize.
On the 2nd (local time), British gambling company CasinoDotOne's simulation results of purchasing the EuroMillions lottery were reported by the UK media outlet Daily Star. EuroMillions is one of the largest lotteries in Europe, where players select 5 main numbers and 2 lucky numbers out of 50. Matching all 7 numbers wins the jackpot (first prize). The odds of hitting the jackpot are about 1 in 140 million.
EuroMillions announces winners every Wednesday and Friday. CasinoDotOne conducted a simulation purchasing tickets costing ?2.5 (about 4,000 KRW) twice a week, aligned with the EuroMillions draw schedule.
As a result, it took 38 years to win the 9th prize by matching three main numbers and one lucky number. However, the prize money was only ?8.5 (about 13,000 KRW). The total amount spent on lottery tickets until winning the 9th prize was ?200,000 (about 312 million KRW), equivalent to the average UK house price as of 2022.
After running the simulation for 800 years, CasinoDotOne was able to recover ?50,000 (about 78 million KRW) but ultimately failed to win the jackpot. The amount spent on lottery tickets during the same period was enormous.
Regarding this, the company warned Daily Star, "In any form of gambling, it is crucial not to spend more money than you can afford," adding, "Buying lottery tickets to pay off debts or to try to turn your life around can be problematic."
They emphasized, "Even if you live to be 800 years old, you still won't win the jackpot."
