Contract Signed with Defense Technology Promotion Institute Worth Approximately 36 Billion KRW
Hanwha Systems is starting the development of core technologies for the Active Protection System (APS), an advanced survival equipment that protects combat vehicles. The Active Protection System is a defense system that actively neutralizes threats before armored vehicles such as tanks and armored personnel carriers are attacked by anti-tank rockets or missiles.
On the 3rd, Hanwha Systems announced that it signed a contract worth approximately 36 billion KRW with the Agency for Defense Development for the project titled "Next-Generation Infantry Fighting Vehicle Multi-Threat Response Intelligent Active Protection Technology."
Hanwha Systems plans to develop "Composite Active Protection Technology" and "Ground-Based Directional Jamming Technology" by 2026 to secure intelligent active protection technology capable of responding to multiple threats.
The company explained that with the expansion of the battlefield domain, the importance of the Active Protection System is emerging to enhance the survivability and combat power of combat vehicles.
Kim Gyu-baek, Head of C4I and Ground Systems Business Division at Hanwha Systems, said, "We will secure core technologies for the Active Protection System and develop a business model that can enter not only the domestic but also overseas markets to expand our global market share."
